Mr. Dave Hepner, exemplifies the true spirit of volunteerism. As
a result of his perseverance and dedication, United Way has continued
along a path of greater transparency for and accountability to our
contributors. When most volunteers would have given up and moved
on, he remained steadfast.
The path to full implementation of Community Impact funding has been a long, winding and bumpy road to navigate. All aspects of United Way were affected - partner agencies, volunteers and contributors. Some days were difficult. Some days not everyone wanted to travel in the direction he asked them to travel. When the Community Impact model was first announced, no one could have predicted that years would pass before the process would be completed and a "Mission Accomplished" banner could be waived. United Way needed a captain to guide the ship - someone who could bring the parties together and not be frustrated by the turbulent seas. Success was achieved in 2008 and for that we recognize a true leader - someone who was willing to reverse or revise course if our crew of partner agencies and volunteers staged a mutiny. Undaunted, Mr. Hepner saw the process through from beginning to end. He did not give up or abandon our ship. He guided us through the storm and safely into port. Mr. Hepner's commitment to being a part of an effort to improve the lives of those in need has been tireless. Through his leadership, Community Impact is addressing critical needs in our community and transforming lives in despair to lives filled with hope. Mr. Hepner has been a consistent member of the Leadership Giving Society and a long time member of our Executive Committee and Board of Directors. This volunteer LIVES UNITED. Volunteer Volunteers are the backbone of United Way. From helping us to keep fundraising costs down - that way almost all of every contribution gets to the people who need it most - to providing the critical link that pulls business, government and human service agencies together - we can do so much more working together than we can alone - volunteers are involved in heroic efforts to improve our community. Just a few of the ways volunteers help include:
When you volunteer, you're touching people's lives directly. When volunteers are asked why they do it, they usually respond that yes, they enjoy doing something for others, but the most compelling reason is that it makes them feel great! Meet

of the thousands of volunteers working to improve lives in our
community.
