United Way Women United

Women United is a philanthropy based on a belief in the collective power of women to improve the lives of Aiken County’s women and children.

Founded in 2015, Women United is dedicated to transforming Aiken through active and specific philanthropic investment to tackle our community’s challenges.  Designated funds collected from fundraising activities are used to award grants that advance the health, safety, education and economic status of Aiken County’s women and children.

Educational opportunities are offered to our membership to help each of us become better informed and more effective donors.

Every member brings different talents to our cause.  Whether you bring your skills, personal contacts, community knowledge or time, you can make a difference.

Mission and Focus Areas:

The Mission is to advance the health, safety, education and economic status of Aiken County’s women and children.

Women United will consider funding programs/projects/initiatives from organizations that demonstrate the ability to achieve measurable results.  Priority will be given to projects and organizations that demonstrate a high probability of sustainability beyond the grant period, fostering permanent change and having a long-term positive impact on Aiken County’s women and children.

Events and Opportunities:

Women United hosts two main events every year. A gala in the Spring, where grants are awarded to assist organizations working to improve the lives of women and children in Aiken County. In the Fall, WU hosts a Tea that benefits our four local shelters with a showering of gifts.

In addition to these two main events, WU has also begun hosting workshops that provide opportunities for Women United members, nonprofits, and community members to continue improving our community and expand their leadership abilities. The first Workshop was held in June of 2023. Carmen Landy, owner and CEO of Landy Dynamic Solutions gave a very insightful interactive presentation titled "What's Next?". The workshop gave participants the opportunity to consider where they are, where they want to go, and how to lead from where they are currently. The next one will take place on February 23, 2024.
