Success By 6
Success by 6 is a collaborative initiative that acts as a catalyst in the community to ensure that Aiken County children get the best start in life by creating awareness of the importance of literacy, early child care and quality education. Components of the initiative include:
In 1995, The Dolly Parton Imagination Library was started in eastern Tennessee to fight against illiteracy in her community, and to promote literacy by encouraging families and children to read together. Every month children ages five and under receive an age appropriate book sent to their home. With over 1.5 million children registered and 130 million books delivered in 5 different countries, Dolly Parton continues to promote the importance of literacy across the globe.
Thank you to First Steps South Carolina who have partnered with us to sponsor children throughout our community. $25 is all it takes to sponsor one child for an entire year.
Born Learning Trails - provide interactive, engaging outdoor activites that stimulate cognitive development, promote early literacy and encourage physical activity among children. Trails are a great resource for parents and care givers as they spend time outdoors with their pre-K children. We now have SEVEN Born Learning Trails!! In 2017, Success by 6 partnered with the Aiken Lions Club and the City of Aiken to install a trail at Odell Weeks Center playground and partnered with Aiken County to install a trail at Roy Warner Park in Wagener. Born Learning Trails are available at the following locations:
- Freedman Parenting Center
- Smith Hazel Center
- Aiken County Library Park
- Harrison Caver Park
- Boyd Pond Park
- Odell Weeks Center

BOOKWORMS - a volunteer-based reading program to encourage a lifelong love of reading and develop reading skills in young children. The program partners with schools and childcare facilities to read to and with young children. The program currently partners with Millbrook Elementary School 5K.
Sponsorships - Success by 6 sponsors area literacy programs such as Story Time in the Garden and annual childcare providers conference.
